Today's Album/ El Album del Día: The Glass Passenger by Jack's Mannequin

Jack's Mannequin is a piano rock band from Orange County, California. A side project of Andrew McMahon, originally from Something Corporate, the band was formed in 2004 and released their first album in August 2005. In June of that year, McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but made a full recovery. Both of the band's albums, Everything in Transit and The Glass Passenger, have been received well by both fans and critics alike. They are currently signed to Sire Records. Some of their more popular songs are 'Dark Blue' and 'The Mixed Tape.'

Like most of my favourite bands and singers, I found Jack's Mannequin watching One Tree Hill, and immediately fell in love with 'The Mixed Tape'. Whenever I hear Andrew McMahon singing:

"Where are you now?

As I rearrange the songs again

This mix could burn a hole in anyone

But it was you I was thinking of"

it makes me wish I had someone that would make me a mixed tape! Beautiful song.

Me and my friends / Yo y mis amigas

Last night with my great friends, at the river side...

***

Old Man's Photography / La Fotografía del Viejo

My dad is a 50-year-old teacher/photographer. He's the main reason why I'm so into photography. This particular photo was taken at the school where he works, these are his students. He teaches children with different capacities, amongst which I grew up. My mom is also a teacher at this school, so being around these people was never disturbing to me.
Give them a chance, they might surprise you.

25 things about me...

1. I am a 16 (going on 17) year old girl, who loves to read, write and listen to all types of music.

2. I'm in my senior year of High School

3. My friends and I have named ourselves as "LDS": Las De Siempre (something like, same old girls, because we've known each other forever).

4. My friends call me "Greenpeace" -cause I care about the environment, and everytime they did sth to "hurt it", like throw papers on the streets, I'd hit them pretty hard, so they've learned no to do that kind of things anymore, at least not when I'm around.

5. They also call me "Mono Relojero" (Clock Monkey)- because everytime we go out dancing, and when the clock strikes 6 am, I start asking "when are we leaving?". I guess I am a really sleepy girl. Another reason for that nickname: I yawn and sleep a lot!

6. My mom doesn't know about this blog. She can be really overprotective about these things, she's always telling me to remove my profile pic so that people won't know who I am. I don'y listen to her, though, I tend to see the best in people.

7. I love being in silence, with a good book and a cup of mint tea. Especially in winter days. I enjoy my alone time.

8. I love watching TV and films. I've recently downloaded The Secret Life of Beas. Great film!

9. I don't really listen to music in spanish, my music library is composed my english performers.

10. I started studying English when I was 5, and I'm currently studying to take my 1st Certificate. I'm gonna study to be an English Translator. I love the language.

11. I've recently learned that I love writing in English (my story, Forbidden Love is being posted at another website, and I'm glad to say that I have faithful readers who love it!), it's harder for me to write in Spanish (my mothertongue).

12. I secretly wish I were a vampire. No, haha, but I am a proud Twilighter!

13. I read Twilight before it was cool.

14. I love my brothers with all my heart!

15. I have the tendency to daydream a lot, thinking about possible storylines to write.

16. I cried when Q died in OTH.

17. Oh, yeah, I love One Tree Hill.

18. I named my dog Peyton after Peyton Sawyer, my favourite character in OTH.

19. I'm trying to write a book, but I've learned that I should finish what I'm already writing before entering into another storyline.

20. I dream about going to London. Weather's not a problem, I love the cold!

21. I live in a big town by the River Negro, beautiful and calm place to live.

22. I love rugby, I'm a big Pumas supporter. Go Pumas! (argentinian rubgy team)

23. I'm a really crazy person, but I can be serious when I have to.

24. I'm studying Budhha's teachings. Don't believe in Heaven or Hell.

25. I wish to be a published writer someday.

Today's Album/ El Album del Día: Don't Look Away by Kate Voegele

Kate Elizabeth Voegele (born December 8, 1986) is a singer-songwriter, musician, and actress from the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, Ohio. She is currently signed to Interscope Records.

Voegele began gaining interest from record labels and management companies after recording a series of demos. The first demo "The Other Side" (released in 2003) was produced by multi-platinum, award winning producer Michael Seifert. Her second demo "Louder Than Words" (released in 2004) was produced by Marshall Altman. Kate signed a record deal with MySpace Records in 2006 and released her debut album Don't Look Away (produced by Marshall Altman) in May of 2007. The album has since sold over 225,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

She is releasing her second studio-album, A Fine Mess, in May, 2009 which is being produced by Mike Elizondo.

I came across Kate while watching One Tree Hill, where she played Mia Catalano, a young singer and keyboardist for a rock band fronted by Jason (Kevin Federline).
Mia performed songs on the series from Voegele's real-life debut album Don't Look Away including "Kindly Unspoken" in her very first episode. Here is where I fell in love with her singing. I may not be a music critique, but I think a lot of people would agree with me when I say that Kate holds one of the most beautiful voices of today. Her blues-ish voice stands out in a world nearly ruled by teen pop singers. Definitely one to keep track of.

Dandelion Wine, one of my my favourite books

"The title refers to a wine made with dandelion petals and other ingredients, commonly citrus fruit. In the story, dandelion wine, as made by the protagonist's grandfather, serves as a metaphor for packing all of the joys of summer into a single bottle.

The main character of the story is Douglas Spaulding, a 12-year-old boy loosely patterned after Bradbury. Most of the book is focused upon the routines of small-town America, and the simple joys of yesteryear."

Join Douglas in his search for the real meaning of life. Travel through time alongside Coronel Freeleigh, learn what love's all about with Helen and Bill, and maybe find out what dying is, as opposed to what we think it was.
Great book filled with metaphores about the discovery of life and death, about happiness and love. Its wonderful and sweet characters will have you hooked from the start!

This book makes me feel: ;) GREAT!
